2018, Year of the Sea

This year in Wales, 2018 is known as The Year of The Sea. A year dedicated to celebrating the outstanding coastline of Wales and to encourage new visitors into the area. We’re lucky enough in North Wales to be surrounded by miles and miles of stunning coastline and beautiful beaches, never being more than a mile away from part of the gorgeous coast, we wish to celebrate!

From Abersoch to Anglesey to Llandudno, North Wales is an area full of stunning coastline, from sandy beaches to rocky cliffs, we have it all in North Wales. So whether you’re after a day by the beach, building sandcastles or a blustery walk alongside rolling waves, North Wales is the destination for you.

Beaches are a plenty here in North Wales, but we’ve come up with our favourites to share with you, from action packed to hidden away, we’ve found a beach to suit every taste!

Rhosneigr in Anglesey is home to two beaches, ideal for activities, with many water sports enthusiasts from surfers, wakeboarders and water skiers making the most of this unique swell. The scenery surrounding the beaches is spectacular, perfect for walkers who want to take in the captivating sand dunes.

Llanbedrog Beach is another beach which deserves a visit. This beach is full of character thanks to the brightly coloured huts which align in front of a stunning backdrop of green. Spectacular views across to Snowdonia can be witnessed from this little beach near Pwllheli. Boasting shallow waters Llanbedrog beach makes for great swimming, especially with its pleasantly warm waters, thanks to its south facing, sheltered position.

If you’re near Conwy, head down to Conwy Morfa, one of North Wales’ most favourite beaches. This large sandy beach is located on the outskirts of the town of Conwy and boasts views across Deganwy and Llandudno. The beach has Conwy mountain as its backdrop, creating glorious scenery for a day at the beach. With a large car park, this beach is perfect if you’re looking for somewhere to walk the dogs.

Another beach worth a visit if you’re in the area is Talacre Beach. This popular seaside resort is home to a stunning beach, perfect for spending fun days with the whole family. With a nearby car park, a short walk takes you straight onto the sandy dunes. This beach may be best known for its iconic lighthouse, a grand figure guarding the view across the Irish sea.

Black Rock Sands is a beach well worth a visit if you’re in the area of Porthmadog. One of the Llyn’s most popular beaches, it brings families to it shores whenever the sun is shining. The perfect beach for a family day out, you can even drive your car straight onto the sands, meaning no lugging your bucket and spades from the car park! It's also a great spot for water sport enthusiasts, with a designated craft zone which ensures watersports are done in a safe and controlled manner.
